EPISODE 3: HOW TO GROW IN THE GIFT OF HEALING?

INTRODUCTION:

Welcome to the 5-Fold Forum Talk Show! With host Carrie Hurley, Carolyn Davis and myself Niccie Kliegl and today’s episode is all about the gift of healing. Healing is a gift often sought but sometimes misunderstood, so we’ll be diving into what it means to grow in this gift. Whether you sense a calling to heal or are simply curious about how God works through healing today, this episode will offer insight and guidance on partnering with God to bring His healing power into the lives of others.

THE PROBLEM:

Potential Struggles Related to the Topic

  • Doubts and Insecurity: Many believers question if they truly have the gift of healing, wondering if it’s something they can actually develop or are worthy to carry.

  • Fear of Failure: The fear of praying for someone’s healing and not seeing immediate results can cause hesitation and discouragement.

  • Lack of Knowledge or Direction: Those desiring to grow in this gift might feel unsure of where to start or how to move forward in learning how God’s healing power can flow through them.

THE WORD:

Scripture-Based Guidance

Doubts and Insecurity: Many believers question if they truly have the gift of healing, wondering if it’s something they can actually develop or are worthy to carry.

  • James 5:14-15 reminds us of the role faith and prayer play in healing:

"Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven."

This passage underscores that healing is an act of faith and partnership with God, where we rely on His power rather than our own. It encourages us to take bold steps in praying for others, trusting that God hears and responds to faith-filled prayers.

  • James 1:6-8 NLT “But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.”

One of my challenges in the past with praying for healing is trying to determine God’s will.  I wanted to be so sure of His will that I often felt double-minded as I prayed - desparately desiring healing for the person, but not wanting to pray contrary to God’s will.  Now I realize that I need to listen to the Holy Spirit and pray as He guides, then leave it all in God’s Sovereign hands.

Fear of Failure: The fear of praying for someone’s healing and not seeing immediate results can cause hesitation and discouragement.

  • Zechariah 4:6 “Then he said to me, “This is what the Lord says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.”

So reassuring to know that accomplishing healing is not on me.  I am just called to be obedient, the rest is up to God. I have to get over myself and my pride.

  • 1 Corinthians 12:9 also highlights healing as a specific spiritual gift:

"…to another gift of healing by that one Spirit."

This verse confirms that healing is indeed a gift of the Spirit, given to believers as part of their calling. God’s Spirit empowers us to bring physical, emotional, and spiritual healing, revealing His compassion and restoring wholeness in people’s lives.

Lack of Knowledge or Direction: Those desiring to grow in this gift might feel unsure of where to start or how to move forward in learning how God’s healing power can flow through them.

  • ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭30:21‬ ‭NLT‬‬. “Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.”

Be in communion with the Holy Spirit so that He can guide you into it.  Step out in faith.

  • 2 Timothy 1:6-8 ESV For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God

Get prayed over, baptized, and surrender self

THE GIFT:

The Blessing of Embracing the Gift of Healing
"The gift of healing is a powerful demonstration of God’s love and compassion. As we step out in faith, praying for healing with a surrendered heart, we become vessels of God’s grace, bringing hope, restoration, and encouragement to those in need. When we embrace this gift, we bless others with the chance to experience God’s touch personally, reminding them that He cares about their pain and has the power to bring renewal. The blessing lies not only in physical recovery but in drawing people closer to God and deepening their faith."

THE CHOICE:

Challenge & Action Steps
"Today’s challenge is this: If you feel called to grow in the gift of healing, start by…

  • Let God be the source of your courage, and trust that He will guide you and work through you in His perfect timing."

  • Developing a deeper relationship with God through prayer

  • Spend time asking God to show you how He wants to use you in this area.

  • study of His Word, especially passages on healing.

  • Seek out faith-building opportunities by praying for those in need, even if it feels uncomfortable at first

  • surround yourself with others who are actively pursuing this gift. LEAD INTO ACADEMY
