EPISODE 5: THE GIFT OF HEALING
INTRODUCTION:
Welcome to the 5-Fold Forum Talk Show with your hosts Carrie Hurley, Carolyn Davis and myself Niccie Kliegl, discuss today’s episode on The Gift of Healing. Healing is one of the most profound ways God shows His love and compassion to His people.
But for many, there are questions, doubts, and uncertainties surrounding this gift. Today, we’ll explore biblical truths that address common struggles and we’ll discover how this gift operates in and through believers to glorify God and bring restoration to others.
THE PROBLEM:
Potential Struggles Related to the Topic
Misunderstanding Healing as a Gift: Struggling to see healing as part of today’s church or understanding how it works.
Skepticism or Doubt: Questioning whether God still works through healing or doubting its authenticity.
Fear of Inadequacy: Feeling unworthy or incapable of being used by God in healing.
Unanswered Prayers: Experiencing unanswered prayers for healing and feeling discouraged or confused.
THE WORD:
Scripture-Based Guidance Addressing Each Problem
Misunderstanding Healing as a Gift:
1 Corinthians 12:9
"To another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit."
This verse confirms that healing is a spiritual gift given by the Holy Spirit. It’s not a human ability but a divine empowerment, still active within the church today.
Acts 2:22
“Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.”
“Jesus’ miracles, Peter said, were God’s way of verifying Jesus’ claims to you, the Jews (cf. 1 Cor. 1:22; 14:22). BKC (Peter addressing the crowd)”
Acts 14:1-3
“At Iconium Paul and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue. There they spoke so effectively that a great number of Jews and Gentiles believed. 2 But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers. 3 So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to do miraculous signs and wonders.”
“The reference to miraculous signs and wonders was further confirmation of God’s endorsement of this ministry (cf. 2:43; 4:30; 5:12; 6:8; 8:6, 13; 15:12). Later Paul referred to these miracles to validate the reality of the gospel among the Galatians (Gal. 3:5).” BKC
Skepticism or Doubt:
Matthew 9:35
"Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness."
This verse reminds us that Jesus modeled healing as part of His ministry. The same power that worked through Him is available to believers through the Holy Spirit (John 14:12).
See my notes for my examples
Acts 9:40; 20:9, 10 - Healing has the ability to hold off death temporarily
Acts 3:7; 19:12 - Healing has the ability to restore health
Fear of Inadequacy:
2 Corinthians 12:9
"But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me."
This verse encourages those who feel unworthy, reminding us that God works through our weakness to display His power. He equips those He calls.
Amen!
Unanswered Prayers:
Isaiah 55:8-9
"‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’"
This passage helps us trust in God’s sovereignty and timing, even when healing doesn’t come as expected. God’s ways are beyond our understanding, but His purposes are always good.
2 Corinthians 12:7-9
“To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
Revelation 21:4
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
THE GIFT:
The Blessing of Embracing the Gift of Healing
The gift of healing allows believers to be vessels of God’s grace and compassion. By stepping out in faith, we provide an opportunity for others to encounter God’s restorative power, often deepening their trust in Him. Healing isn’t just about physical restoration—it touches hearts, mends broken spirits, and demonstrates the reality of God’s love. As we walk in this gift, we experience the joy of partnering with God and seeing His kingdom advance in tangible ways."
THE CHOICE:
Challenge & Action Steps
Your challenge for this week is to take one bold step in exploring the gift of healing:

Pray for someone in need of healing, trusting God to move regardless of the outcome.
