Episode 7 - Shownotes

Introduction:

  • Welcome to today’s episode of The Presence of God! I'm your host, Niccie, and today we're diving into a vital topic of: Renouncing Sin—what does that really mean?

  • Renouncing sin is a powerful tool that allows us to draw closer to God and experience His presence in our lives in more profound ways. When we remove sin from our lives, we unlock peace, joy, healing, restoration and so much more.

The Problem:

Take a moment to reflect—do any of these resonate with you?

  • Wishing for more of God's power, peace, joy, love, or self-control?

  • Feeling the need for healing or restoration in your life?

  • Experiencing loneliness, confusion, or feeling unsettled?

If you're nodding yes, don't fret. We've all been there.
But here's what I can tell you: when we stay close to God, these feelings never have a stronghold over us.
So, let's dig into why that is and see what God’s Word says.

The Word: Key Themes:

Renounce-Proverbs 28:13. ”Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.”

Draw near -Hebrews 7:25 (ESV)
"Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them."

When we draw near, God can work in our lives in ways we cannot even imagine.

Teaching Point 1: Drawing Near to God

  • Drawing close to God is essential for a flourishing, Spirit-filled life. When we abide in Him, we experience the fullness of His love, wisdom, and power.

Supporting Scripture:
John 15:5 (KJV): "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing."

Teaching Point 2: Satan’s Tactics

Satan's strategies aim to pull us away from God. Here are a few examples:

  • Temptation: (Genesis 3:1-6) Adam and Eve’s story shows how temptation distanced humanity from God.

  • Deception: (John 10:10) The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

  • Accusation: (Revelation 12:10) Satan tries to make us feel unworthy by accusing us day and night… undeserving of God’s grace.

  • Distraction: (1 Peter 5:8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. ) He tries to overwhelm us with worldly concerns to distract us from our spiritual focus.

Teaching Point 3: Christ’s Intercession

  • Jesus is our constant advocate. He intercedes for us so that we can remain close to the Father, even when we falter.

Scriptural Reference:
Romans 8:34 (ESV): “Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.”

The Gift:

Renouncing sin opens the door to God’s gifts. It helps us walk in alignment with His Spirit, enabling us to live lives filled with His power, grace, and provision.

It frees us from footholds as we own - sit in and deal with the effects of sin we carry around.

The Choice:

We have free will and can choose to draw near to God or stay distanced by sin. Renouncing sin is a daily, intentional practice that leads to living in God’s presence.

Personal Reflection:

Take a moment to think about areas in your life where sin may be distancing you from God. Where is the enemy tempting you? Where can you invite God’s presence back in?

Gratitude and Worship:

Let’s end by thanking God for His unending grace and for always making a way for us to come back to Him through Jesus.

Offer a prayer of gratitude and worship to our Lord.
